Pre Louis XVI style, known as Transitional 1760-1775 gilt chaise longue or duchesse. The original design was attributed to Jacques-Jean-Baptiste Tilliard, and the piece was housed in the Chateau de Versailles.
The Louis XV outline of the piece is broken up by numerous projections bearing garlands of flowers, ribbons and other classical motifs.
This gilt chaise longue has been upholstered in the blue fabric taken from the deisgn from Castle Howard, in Yorkshire.
